What are Preventive Services?

Preventive services are provided to children and their families for the purpose of preventing a child/children's placement in or return to foster care.

What services are provided?

Services which may be provided include:

  • case management
  • case planning
  • casework contacts
  • daycare services
  • homemaker services
  • home management services
  • clinical services
  • parenting/parent aide services
  • transportation services
  • emergency shelter
  • preventive housing services
  • intensive home based family preservation services
  • crisis respite care
  • recreational services

How do families benefit from these services?

Family members receive support to address the stress related issues that prevent them from providing their children with adequate parenting.

Who can receive preventive services?

Preventive Services are offered to families in which there is a child or children under the age of 18 at risk of foster care placement as determined by the Department of Social Services.  Please contact your local Social Service Center or call (914) 995-6593.
