Westchester
County
Department of Social Services
The
Department's key role in the community is to enrich the quality of life for
Westchester
citizens in need of assistance and special services. Although our role remains unchanged, the
ways in which we strive to achieve optimum customer service have evolved.
The
catalyst for this change began in 1998 and has been fueled by Federal action
addressing the laws governing the delivery of welfare benefits. With
renewal/revision of the legislation, we continue to look for
opportunities to improve on the service delivery systems currently in
place.
Central
to the mission of WCDSS, is the belief that all people want to achieve
self-reliance and take pride in their accomplishments. Our goal is to enable public assistance customers and potential customers
to gain self-sufficiency through employment, securing support for children and
offering other services that remove barriers to independence.
We
trust that we can help those we serve enhance the quality of their lives,
provide for themselves and their families, and make positive contributions
to their communities.
We recognize that some segments of our population,
adult and
children, are vulnerable and require services to assist and protect them.
WCDSS stands ready to provide services in the most humane and
compassionate manner. We
believe that our success at fulfilling our mission relies on the delivery
of services in an environment that supports our staff’s professional
development, promotes shared leadership, teamwork and individual
responsibility.
We
are confident that we can serve as a
catalyst for commitment and action within the community, resulting in
expanded resources, innovative programs and services, and new public and
private sector partnerships.
