| The
Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Reconciliation Act of
1996 set time limits for federally funded assistance and work
requirements for welfare recipients. Applicants and recipients of
TANF (Temporary Assistance to Needy Families) are required to find
employment quickly and take responsibility for supporting themselves and
their families.
Transitioning
individuals and families from welfare to work is a multi-faceted
process.
Each phase is a separate component, but sustained success requires
combining and coordinating a variety of programs and
activities. The department
has designed a four step process to achieve success through:
- job search and
readiness
- job placement
- retention services
- skills
enhancement.
Our goal for Westchester is
to create a wealth of job
opportunities and a workforce ready to fill those positions
and achieve independence.
