The first annual Metro NY-NJ-CT area's Best Workplaces for CommutersSM List is coming in May 2004 and Westchester employers are gearing up to meet this challenge.  The Best Work Place for Commuters List nationally recognizes those local employers whose Commuter Choice programs meet the National Standard of Excellence set by the U.S. EPA.  Cars are the greatest single source of air pollution in our area.  These employers strive to provide real financial incentives to encourage employees to leave their cars at home and commute in ways that reduce traffic and pollution.  Companies on the Best Workplaces for Commuters List, in addition to being recognized as environmentally friendly, often report improved employee productivity and morale, reduced turnover and savings from reduced payroll taxes.  Employees notice a decrease in stress and drive time and an increase in job satisfaction.

How do you make the list?  It’s easy.  Start by reviewing your Commuter Choice Program to ensure it meets EPA’s criteria.  To meet EPA’s National Standard of Excellence a program must offer at least one primary benefit and three supporting commuter benefits to employees.  A menu of commuting options is available, allowing you to create a plan tailored to your organization’s needs.  Three additional requirements must be met to make the list.  For a checklist of program requirements visit the Best Work Place for Commuters website at www.bestworkplaceforcommuters.gov or www.bwc.gov.

Distinguish yourself from the competition.  Join now, and get the recognition you deserve and help our air quality in the process.  The program you currently have in place may already qualify you for this list.  You may only require minimal upgrade of your program to qualify.  Find out how you can join this elite group.

For personal assistance in tailoring your plan you may contact Westchester County’s SMART COMMUTE Program at 914 995-4444.
