Our Mission

The mission of Westchester’s SMART COMMUTE Program is to reduce traffic congestion in Westchester County by encouraging the use of commute alternatives such as buses, trains, vanpools, carpooling,  telecommuting, compressed work schedules, walking, biking – any travel mode or work arrangement that takes a single occupant vehicle off the road.  

The program partners with Westchester County employers and their employees to provide products and services on various alternatives to driving to work alone.  And best of all, it's completely free!  

Westchester is a great place to live, work and operate a business. The County is home to a highly-skilled workforce, great schools, beautiful parks and the majestic Hudson River. In fact, Westchester’s outstanding quality of life is one of the main reasons why it is home to more Fortune 500 companies than any other suburban county in New York State.

Growing traffic congestion threatens this quality of life.  It wastes energy; delays the delivery of goods and services; results in employee tardiness, pollutes the air and raises the cost of both living and doing business in our County.  It also costs employees time and money.

We are confident that by fulfilling our mission to inform, educate and encourage Westchester's business community and their employees of the alternatives to single auto commuting, we can help to preserve Westchester's quality of life for future generations to come.
