Travel Information Bulletin
January and February 2005

Quality of life issues for your employees are greatly impacted by the nature and scope of their commute to work.  As we consider the several options available and which are generally referred to as Commuter Choice Options, we must give due diligence to the technological advancements and the possibilities they provide for Telework.  Commute distances can be readily shortened or even eliminated, and emergency prepared- ness can arrest trepidations about work stoppage, when workplaces have a telework program in place.  The Association for Commuter Transportation (ACT) brings to human resource managers valuable information about the telework program.

As a TDM professional, you may want to promote telework to your potential clients, but aren't sure of the technological barriers that may prevent the deployment of a good telework program. If this is the case, this session is for you!  Join us as we discuss the newest enabling technologies related to telework.
Jeremy Hopwood of Tsaba Networks, and Mary McClintock of Nortel Networks, will explain viable solutions that break down barriers, relating to such issues as security, high-speed penetration, remote clients, voice solutions, and portability.  You may be surprised when you discover that no technological barrier can prevent the development or expansion of a company-wide telework initiative! This session is co-sponsored by the Association for Commuter

Transportation’s Telework Council.  ACT is an international association of more than 800 professionals whose focus is the development and delivery of commuter options. Membership is comprised of employers, transportation management associations, transit agencies, vanpool service companies, and government agencies interested in mitigating traffic congestion, increasing mobility and improving air quality.
Moderators: Patrice Thornton, Manager, BWC Network

Telework
- a workplace arrangement in which employees work part or full time away from the primary workplace – has increased as employers and employees have become more comfortable with it. Because it can reduce long commutes, many employers have begun to regard the telework option as an employee benefit, and thus, as a valuable recruitment and retention tool. And employers who promote an environmentally-friendly image will love the emissions benefits they can claim.

As always, for more information and for any of your commute needs, please call Westchester’s SMART COMMUTE Program at (914) 995-4444, or e-mail us at
