Spanish-speaking seniors and caregivers will learn about diabetes and vision loss at the 14th annual “Healthy Living” or “Viviendo Saludablemente” conference on Saturday, Sep. 13. Evelyn Morales, RN, BSN, director of the Westchester program office of Lighthouse International, will be among the speakers.
The event will take place from 8:45 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the Marion W. Fried Auditorium at the White Plains Hospital Center at Davis Avenue and East Post Road in White Plains. A continental breakfast and lunch will be served. The program is free, but registration is required.
The conference is sponsored by the Public/Private Partnership for Aging Services and the Coalition on Hispanic Aging of the Westchester County Department of Senior Programs and Services (DSPS) and by the White Plains Hospital Center.
DSPS created the Coalition on Hispanic Aging in 1990 to identify gaps in services to the Hispanic elderly. Coalition members are organizations and agencies that serve the Hispanic community and individuals and professionals who work with and serve the Hispanic elderly. The coalition organizes programs and conferences for Spanish-speaking seniors, encourags Hispanic seniors to participate in activities organized for the general public and translates and publishes information in Spanish about programs and benefits. It also supports organizations in the community with new initiatives to serve the Hispanic elderly.
Spanish-speaking seniors should register with the coalition to receive Spanish newsletters, invitations on a variety of events and other information.
