Anyone who suspects that a child is being abused or neglected
should call the The
New
York State Central Register
Hotline and report his or her concerns at any
time. The number to call is
(800) 342-3720.
If you suspect that a child is being abused, you can call anonymously to the New York State Central Register to report it.
You do not need proof
of abuse, but you should be able to explain why you suspect abuse. If
the state believes the case is credible it will refer the
investigation to the local offices of
Child Protective Services. If you are a teacher, counselor, medical professional or other professional who works with the public, you may be a Mandated Reporter and are required by law to report abuse.
How do I know if a child is being abused? Just because a child has bruises does not mean that he or she is abused. The most important thing is to look for is a pattern of abuse. Here are some of the signs to look for: Physical Abuse
