The Communications Unit (CU)
is staffed by sworn and civilian personnel working
together to provide law enforcement agencies with a countywide emergency
communications system. The CU is in operation twenty-four (24) hours a
day,
seven (7) days a week, and houses the E-911 emergency communication
system.

The
unit operates a Computer Aided Dispatch System, designed to streamline
dispatch operations, improve response time and increase the accuracy of
data.
Ultimately, this new system improves the Department’s ability to
maintain and
store information and to enhance delivery of services.
The CU
serves as the point of contact for the Westchester chapter of the
National
Crime Stoppers Program. Crime Stoppers is part of an international
organization
that assists law enforcement agencies in solving crimes and apprehending
fugitives
by offering cash rewards for anonymous information and tips. CU
personnel have
been trained to respond to calls made to the “hot line” and process the
information
received. This “hot line” is monitored twenty-four (24)
hours a day, seven (7)
days a week.
