Bureau of Criminal Investigation

The 30 Probation Officers within this bureau directly support the 50+ Westchester Criminal Courts by investigating adult offenders who are awaiting sentencing.

The officers, who complete approximately 4,500 pre-sentence investigations a year, assist the criminal courts in deciding who will be sentenced to probation, state prison and/or imprisonment within Westchester Corrections.

Criminal Supervision Bureau

In 2002 the 60 Probation Officers within this bureau supervised over 6,000 convicted criminal offenders within Westchester County.

 Economic Sanctions
This unit supervises over 600 cases and collects over $750,000.00 annually in restitution.    Since 1992 over 10 Million Dollars has been dispersed to the victims of crimes to repay their economic loss and medical needs that resulted from the criminal offense..

DWI Offender Enforcement
Two units supervise individuals who have been convicted of multiple drunk driving offenses. Officers in these units ensure that DWI offenders are actively involved in treatment and do not drive without permission. Officers also ensure that DWI offenders pay fines, restitution and administrative fees.  The almost $250,000 a year in administrative fees  defray the cost of their probation supervision.

General Supervision
Four units based in White Plains, Mount Vernon and Yonkers supervise over 2,500 offenders throughout the county.   Officers in these units have the broadest range of expertise in dealing with all categories of offenders.

Special Operations
This unit actively pursues and arrests probationers who violate their conditions of probation.  In 2002 this unit cleared 400 probationer warrants.

Criminal Operations Bureau

In 2002, the 40 Probation Officers within this bureau worked intensively with the probationers most likely to re-victimize.  This includes 150 Probationer’s that are gang members, 460 Psychiatric and Sex Offenders and 477 Domestic Violence Offenders.
