The county offers many helpful resources and programs for teachers

Find new ways to liven up the classroom and encourage kids to want to learn. Westchester County’s laundry list of resources makes it easy to research topics such as Fit Kids, the dangers of steroids, teen drinking, local history; or youth safety. See how your school or community group can get a professional map created from data collected as part of your own research project.

Once again, students in grades three to five are invited to participate in our annual Bicycle Safety Poster Contest, designed to increase children's awareness of bicycle safety, with the goal of reducing injuries and encouraging bicycling to school. If you are interested in participating, return the school entry form by Feb. 27.

There's an exciting new pilot program for elementary and middle schools through the county's Hilltop Hanover Farm and Environment Center. The program brings farming to local schools to show youngsters how to grow their own gardens and learn about sustainable farming. It supports the county’s “Be Fit” effort to fight the growing problem of childhood obesity and to encourage children to exercise and make healthy food choices.

The Mobile Shredder is now available to public schools at no charge. This program expands our “shared services” initiative to reduce costs for school districts and government departments.

Rx For Success: Dare to be a Doctor is a program targeted to motivated minority and disadvantaged students in middle and high school who are interested in pursuing careers in the medical field. Students interested in future workshops or information sessions should submit their e-mail address in order to receive notifications.
