Because Plan B® was developed specifically with emergencies in mind and because not all pharmacies stock it, it is a good idea to be prepared should one find oneself in the unexpected position of needing it. That can mean purchasing Plan B® before an emergency arises. Plan B® has a long shelf life and can be stored in the medicine cabinet alongside the pain relievers. Check its expiration date before using it.
Women 18 and older can go to any pharmacy that carries it and purchase Plan B® without a prescription. List of

Men can also purchase Plan B®. Proof of age must be presented. Below you will find acceptable forms of identification. (Note, however, that a pharmacy may ask for whatever it deems to be appropriate ID.)
- Driver’s license or another State-issued ID card containing a photo and date of birth (includes Washington DC);
- Driver’s license or ID issued by a US possession, such as Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands;
- Canadian driver’s license;
- US passport, unexpired or expired;
- An unexpired foreign passport;
- School ID with a photograph;
- Voter registration card;
- US military card or military dependent’s card; or draft record;
- Alien registration card or permanent resident card, Form I-551.
