Westchester County-led Trade Missions

Since assuming office in 1998, County Executive Andy Spano has travelled to China, Ireland and Italy to promote trade opportunities and global expansion within Westchester's business and educational communities.

During a week-long mission to Italy in 2003, Mr. Spano opened up a "Westchester Desk" as part of an agreement with the Italian Center for Commercial Affairs-USA (ICCA) - a move which has paved the way for Westchester companies interested in doing business in Italy.

In April 2004, a Westchester County delegation traveled to Ireland and Northern Ireland to meet with some of the individuals responsible for Ireland's unprecedented economic turnaround. The mission targeted the country's high-tech centers and helped link Westchester-based firms with Irish counterparts. County delegates met with top officials from the Irish Investment and Development Agency and Enterprise Ireland, a government development agency that assists businesses - primarily in the technology sector - export products to the United States and other countries.

Experience the sights and sounds of the County's most recent trade mission to China. This mission introduced specific Westchester-based companies to Chinese partners and continued planting the seeds for future business, cultural and educational collaboration.
The goal of this delegation was to scout opportunities for local firms, establish relationships between Westchester's high tech firms and those in China, build interest in Westchester's upcoming research park, and help launch a medical exchange program on behalf of the Westchester Medical Center.

This particular trade mission had two main goals: to 1) continue to reinforce the marketing of Westchester County, especially in technology industries and 2) to assist Pace University in setting up a presence among Chinese students.
Relive the County's first trade mission to China, including pictures and video taken from the 12-day journey which included trade meetings in the cities of Shanghai, Xiamen, Wuhan, Jingzhou, Beijing, and Hong Kong.
