The data on residence 5 years earlier were derived from answers to the long-form questionnaire, which was asked of a sample of the population 5 years old and over.  This question asked for the state (or foreign country), U.S. county, city or town, and ZIP Code of residence on April 1, 1995, for those people who reported that on that date they lived in a different house than their current residence.
