Cross Country Skiing

Whether you prefer challenging trails through wooded areas or acres of open space to traverse, Westchester County parks and golf courses offer an ideal setting for cross country skiing. You must provide your own equipment; no rentals are available.
(Please note: Sledding is allowed only where noted. Sledding is not permitted at golf courses.)

Conditions permitting, cross country skiing is allowed seven days a week during daylight hours at the following locations:

Marked trails in addition to open areas

NORTHERN WESTCHESTER

Route 35, Somers (Open 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. only)

Skating

Westchester County’s lakes and ponds provide ideal locations for scenic outdoor ice skating. As with skiing, you must bring your own skates: no rentals are available. Ice is checked daily at all locations for safety and conditions. When the white flag with the green ball or sign is posted indicating safe conditions, ice skating is permitted seven days a week during daylight hours at the following locations:

NORTHERN WESTCHESTER

Blue Mountain Reservation, Welcher Avenue, Peekskill
Mountain Lakes Park, Hawley Road, North Salem

CENTRAL WESTCHESTER

Wampus Pond, Route 128, Armonk

SOUTHERN WESTCHESTER

Bronxville Lake and Crestwood Lake  along Bronx River Parkway
Tibbetts Brook Park, Midland Avenue. Yonkers
Twin Lakes, California Road. Eastchester
Willson’s Woods Park, East Lincoln Avenue, Mount Vernon

PLAYLAND ICE CASINO

Indoor ice skating is available at the Playland Ice Casino in Rye on the Main, Children’s and studio rinks. The Casino has a snack bar, lounge and game room. Top quality skates in sizes for children to adults are available, and professional ice skating lessons and hockey clinics are offered throughout the season The Ice Casino is available for rental for groups or birthday parties.
