Twin Lakes/Nature Study Woods Park History

Date Acquired:  1924

Acres:  220

Background:  Named for the two lakes on the property, this land originally belonged to the Mahlsted family and included an ice house. One building on the property was used as a branch of the New Rochelle library, but was closed due to city budget cuts.
The park is mostly an undeveloped wooded area, but there are also fields, marshlands, and several ponds. Two stables hire out horses for riding on existing trails; one even boasts an indoor riding rink. Both are used for horse shows and competitions. The other side of the park is a wooded nature study area with several trails.
