Runs: May 2- October 31, 2009 “FIGURES IN THE PARK” EXHIBIT OPENS WITH RECEPTION AT KENSICO Meet the renowned sculptor Itzik Benshalom, whose “Figures in the Park” exhibit can be viewed at three Westchester County parks, during a reception this Saturday, May 2, 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., at Kensico Dam Plaza in Valhalla. Titled “Figures in the Park,” the exhibit features 13 of Mr. Benshalom’s sculptures exhibiting the flowing lines and curves of the human form. He presents the viewers with the barest of human forms, figures devoid of facial features, hands, feet, and in some cases, even arms, allowing them their own individual interpretations of his work. In addition to the six works on view at Kensico Dam Plaza, two sculptures can be seen at Ward Pound Ridge Reservation in Cross River and four at Lasdon Park and Arboretum in Somers. A native of Hadera, Israel, Itzik Benshalom is a self-taught artist who has been working in the 4,000-year-old “lost wax” process for casting sculpture since 1967. Art critics have noted the influence of Europe’s modern art tradition in his work, but also have noted his stark presentation of form, a characteristic that departs from traditional European tradition. His works have appeared in galleries and museums in North America, Europe, Asia and the Middle East and in various private and corporate collections. “Figures in the Park” is presented in cooperation with the Peter Rose Gallery in Manhattan. It will be on view daily during park hours through October 31.
