March 10, 2009
More than 15 representatives of Westchester’s Quadricentennial Committee and host agencies were at the County Office Building in White Plains to greet the official 400th flag delivery van as it makes its way up from New York City on its way north to municipal buildings, libraries, schools and other stops before arriving in Saratoga County.
The bus tour, coordinated by Tara Sullivan, Executive Director of the New York State Hudson-Fulton-Champlain Quadricentennial, and Ulster County Legislator Susan Zimet, chair of the Arts, Education, Tourism and Community Relations Committee, is intended to build momentum for a great summer and fall of Quadricentennial events. They distributed the New York State 400th! flag to fly in front of county, town and village municipal buildings, as well as schools and libraries.
The year 2009 marks the 400th anniversary of Henry Hudson’s historic “Half Moon” voyage up the majestic river that bears his name. Cities and villages along Westchester’s Hudson River from Yonkers to Peekskill are celebrating the Quadricentennial with a series of events all year long. This commemoration will attract visitors from around the world to join in this once-in-a-lifetime experience. For more information, visit www.westchestergov.com/tourism.
