Located in the Department of Parks, Recreation and Conservation– Ossining: Under general supervision and in accordance with department policies, standards and state regulations, an incumbent of this position directs and supervises the operation of one or more golf courses to ensure properly maintained facilities for the enjoyment of the golfing public. Golf course facilities may include a clubhouse with a restaurant and snack bar, driving range, pro-shop, cart rentals, etc., which are either County or concessionaire-run and operated.  Work involves responsibility for the smooth, efficient operation of the golf course; maintaining good public relations, and investigating and responding to patron questions or complaints. Supervision is exercised over operations personnel, concessionaires and others. Administrative oversight is maintained over greens-keeping staff.  Does elated work as required.

 

REQUIRED: High school or equivalency diploma and five years of experience where the primary function of the position was the operation or maintenance of a golf course, two years of which must have been in a lead capacity which included responsibility for customer relations.

 

SUBSTITUTION: Satisfactory completion of 30 college credits* may be substituted on a year for year basis for up to two years of the above stated general experience. There is no substitution for the two years of specialized experience.

 

SPECIAL REQUIREMENT: Depending on work assignment, must meet standards of OSHA regulation 1910.134 Respiratory Protection, and will be required to meet Federal, State and local standards with respect to health and safety.

Located in the Department of Parks, Recreation and Conservation – Ossining: Under general supervision, the incumbent is responsible for the maintenance of a County golf course, using sound agronomic principles.  The Greenskeeper supervises the maintenance and repair of equipment necessary to keep a golf course in good playing condition and instructs and supervises subordinate personnel to insure that work is performed efficiently and in accordance with department standards.  The incumbent may operate machinery, apply pesticides and chemicals and works long hours, weekends and 6 days a week during the golf season, as required. Supervision is exercised over subordinate maintenance staff. Does related work as required.

 

REQUIRED: Either (a) Possession of a high school or equivalency diploma and five years of experience in general golf course maintenance, one year of which must have been in a supervisory capacity; or (b) sixty college* credits with a specialization in agronomy or turf management and three years experience as described in (a) including the supervisory experience; or (c) a satisfactory equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of (a) and (b).

 

SUBSTITUTION:  A Bachelor’s Degree in Turf Grass Science may be substituted for four years of the required experience. Candidates must possess the supervisory experience.

 

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Possession of a valid New York State motor vehicle operator’s license.
  2. Possession of a New York State Pesticide Applicators license, within the appropriate category.

Located in the Department of Parks, Recreation and Conservation – New Rochelle: Under the general supervision of appropriate PRC personnel management, this position supervises the 12-month operation and maintenance of one of the County's busiest parks, Tibbetts Brook, Glen Island, Croton Point or the Bronx River Parkway Reservation. This is the highest of the three grades of Park Superintendent and is distinguished from the Park Superintendent I and II by the size of the budget and the number park patrons. This being the highest level of the series, there is considerable leeway for the exercise of independent judgment within the framework of major departmental policies.  Supervision is exercised over a large number of full-time and seasonal park and parkway maintenance personnel. Incumbents may be required to provide weekend, evening and holiday coverage as scheduled. Does related work as required. 

 

REQUIRED: Either:  (a) a Bachelor's Degree* in Recreation, Park Administration, Forestry, Horticulture or related field and five years of experience where a primary function of the position was in the day-to-day operation and/or maintenance of parks, trails or other types of recreation areas or programs; or (b) possession of a high school or equivalency diploma and nine years of experience as defined in (a).

 

SUBSTITUTION: Satisfactory completion of 30 credits* towards a Bachelor’s Degree* in Recreation, Park Administration, Forestry, Horticulture or a closely related field may be substituted on a year for year basis for up to four years of the required experience. Satisfactory completion of a Master’s Degree* in one of the aforementioned fields may also be substituted on a year for year basis for up to one year of the required experience

 

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Possession of a valid New York State motor vehicle operator's license at the time of appointment.  Depending on work assignment may be required to possess New York State Department of Environmental Conservation Pesticide Certification in the appropriate categories.  Possession of a certificate as a swimming pool treatment operator if assigned to a park with a swimming pool.  Depending on work assignment, must meet standards of OSHA regulation 1910.134 Respiratory Protection, and will be required to meet Federal, State and local standards with respect to health and safety.

Located in the Department of Environmental Facilities– Mamaroneck: Under general supervision, an incumbent performs journeyman level maintenance and repair of meters, register and panel board instrumentation in wastewater treatment plants or various County buildings. The incumbent is responsible for the maintenance, servicing, and proper operation of meters, transmitters, indicators and summators used on a wide variety of mechanical and electrical systems and machinery which control the operation of wastewater treatment plants, pump stations, or County building systems. Work is performed with considerable independence, in accordance with written or oral instructions. The incumbent may work as part of a crew or as lead worker on specific projects and may supervise a number of lower level maintenance and labor employees, or supervise and coordinate the work performed by service contractors. The journeyman is fully proficient in the skills and practices of the trade, with the full knowledge of the principles, tools and techniques. The journeyman has responsibility for determining methods, techniques, materials, and/or devices best suited to complete projects. Work at this grade may be completed with little or no check during progress or on completion. Supervisor may check overall work to see that it meets trade standards. Does related building and site work as required.

 

REQUIRED: A high school or equivalency diploma and either:  (a) four year experience in the trade; or (b) four years full time experience under an instrumentation journeyman which provided training and experience equivalent to that given in an apprenticeship program; or (c) four years experience in electrical and mechanical repair, maintenance and installation, two of which must have included instrumentation; (d) completion of a two year post high school or trade school course* and two years experience in the trade. 

 

SUBSTITUTION:  Apprenticeship training in instrumentation or training gained by the completion of technical courses in instrumentation at a school institute or branch of the Armed Services may be substituted for the above training and experience on a year for year basis.
