Located in the Westchester Community College – Valhalla: Under general supervision, an incumbent of this class performs apprentice level duties related to gardening and grounds keeping, maintenance, repair, design and installation. The incumbent works in situations which provide training to develop skills and knowledge. The incumbent works independently on less complex and routine projects and under supervision on the more difficult jobs.  As the employee's skill and knowledge increase, the employee receives less direction until at the full performance level. Advancement depends on the assignment and performance of higher level duties on a regular basis and on position availability. In general, jobs involve learning such trade practices and skills as:  the proper use of the tools, equipment and chemicals used in the trade; the techniques of transplanting, laying sod, pruning, applying chemicals, etc.; the techniques of patching asphalt, plowing, mowing, sanding, grading; how to read blueprints, sketches and technical manuals. Does related work as required.

 

REQUIRED: Either: (a) three years of -experience in gardening, landscaping or grounds keeping; or (b) completion of an appropriate two year technical school course*.

 

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: (1) Possession of a valid New York State Operator’s License appropriate to the equipment operated will be required at time of appointment and maintain same while in the title. (2) Depending on work assignment, may be required to be a Certified Pesticide Applicator in New York State, within the appropriate category, at time of appointment and maintain same while in the title. (3) Depending on work assignment, must meet standards of OSHA regulation 1910.134 Respiratory Protection, and will be required to meet Federal, State and local standards with respect to health and safety.

 

NOTES:  (1) The number of years of experience required in the minimum qualifications is based upon the presumption of full-time employment.  Part-time experience will be prorated based on a 35 hour workweek. 

(2) Verified and documented volunteer (unpaid) experience will only be credited when specifically allowed by the job description or examination announcement.

Located in the District Attorney’s Office – Mount Vernon: Under supervision, an incumbent of this class performs a wide variety of tasks providing clerical support and acts as an office assistant for a number of administrative or professional staff.  Independent action is exercised when routine procedures or clearly defined policies are involved. This position requires a full range of keyboarding skills in the operation of either a word processor and, in some cases, a standard typewriter. When operating word processing equipment, an incumbent is expected to maximize equipment capability in compiling correspondence, records, reports statistical information for various reports; setting up and maintaining automated records and filing systems, and in compiling information for management needs. A high degree of initiative and independent action is required to ensure the timely and accurate processing of the workflow. This position differs from Senior Information Systems Clerk in that the Office Assistant is required to have full knowledge of word processing equipment in order to produce a full range of correspondence and reports, in addition to providing general office support to professional and/or administrative staff.  Supervision may be exercised over a small number of subordinate personnel.  Flexibility of hours may be required.  Duties require proficiency in both Spanish and English, providing interpretive and information services.  Does related work as required.  

 

REQUIRED: Possession of a high school or equivalency diploma and three (3) years of experience where a primary function of the position was performing general office/clerical work, two years of which must have included the use of computer applications to maintain automated records or produce correspondence, spreadsheets, forms, reports or other documents.

 

SUBSTITUTIONS: (1) Satisfactory completion of 30 credits* at a recognized college or university, or its equivalent in course hours from an approved institution or office software manufacturer (i.e. Microsoft) may be substituted on a year for year basis for one year of the general office/clerical experience and one year of the specialized experience using computer applications as described above. (2) Completion of 6 credits* in word processing coursework at a recognized college or university may be substituted for an additional one year of specialized experience using computer applications as described above.  All coursework must be verified by official transcript.

Located in the Department of Public Works and Transportation – White Plains: Under general supervision an incumbent performs a wide variety of journeyman level maintenance and repair on heating/ventilating and air-conditioning systems. The position includes the layout of jobs sufficiently complex to require advance planning and the maintenance of necessary supplies and records. Work is performed with considerable independence, and may be initiated by oral or written instructions and in accordance with a preventive maintenance schedule. Incumbent may work alone, as part of a crew or function as lead worker on specific projects and may supervise a number of lower level maintenance and labor employees. The journeyman is fully proficient in the skills and practices of the trade, with full knowledge of the principles, tools and techniques. The journeyman has responsibility for determining methods, techniques, materials, and/or devices best suited to complete projects. Work at this grade is completed with little or no check during progress or on completion; however supervisors periodically check overall work to see that it meets trade standards. Does related work as required. 

 

REQUIRED: Either:  (a) high school or equivalency diploma and four years of experience where the primary function of the position was mechanical repair, maintenance and installation, two years of which must have been in a wide variety of HVAC equipment including pumps, motors, chillers, fans, etc.; or (b) graduation from a high school level vocational course and three years of experience in the trade; or (c) completion of a two year post high school or trade school course* and two years of experience as stated in (a); or (d) seven years work experience, five of which must have been as stated in (a); or (e) a satisfactory equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of (a), (b), (c) and (d).
