Located in the Department of Public Works and Transportation – White Plains: Under general supervision of a higher level maintenance or administrative position, incumbents perform skilled mechanical repairs and maintenance of heavy equipment (gasoline or diesel self-propelled and non-self-propelled engine equipment). Incumbents are responsible for a wide variety of repairs and maintenance work on all types of landfill, automotive, diesel and heavy equipment vehicles. This position is not intended to accommodate those who perform maintenance and repair exclusively on "passenger cars". In addition, this class is responsible for carrying out a preventive maintenance program, required maintenance, and mechanical repairs on disabled equipment in the field. This class differs from the Auto Mechanic III by the complexity of assignment and the requirement of various licensures. Incumbents may function as lead worker on specific projects.  Does related work as required.

 

REQUIRED: Possession of a high school, equivalency or automotive trade school diploma and either and three years of experience where the primary responsibility of the position was performing both automotive and heavy equipment repair work.

 

SUBSTITUTION: Satisfactory completion of 30 credits* of post-high school education in the field of automotive repair or maintenance, or closely related field, may be substituted for one year of the above stated experience.

 

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

 

1.     Possession of valid license to operate a motor vehicle in New York State appropriate for equipment at assigned location. 

 

2.     Depending on work assignment, must meet standards of OSHA regulation 1910.134 Respiratory Protection, and will be required to meet Federal, State and local standards with respect to health and safety.

 

NOTES:  (1) The number of years of experience required in the minimum qualifications is based upon the presumption of full-time employment.  Part-time experience will be prorated based on a 35 hour workweek.

(2) Verified and documented volunteer (unpaid) experience will only be credited when specifically allowed by

This position is not intended to accommodate those who perform maintenance and repair exclusively on "passenger cars".  In addition, this class is responsible for carrying out a preventive maintenance program, required maintenance, and mechanical repairs on disabled equipment in the field.  This position is distinguished from Auto Mechanic II in that the higher level position requires possession of various licenses (see below).  Supervision may be exercised over lower level mechanics in a leadership and training role.  Does related work as required. 

 

REQUIRED: Either: (a) high school, equivalency or automotive trade school diploma and four years experience where the primary responsibility of the position was in both automotive and heavy equipment diagnostic and repair work; or (b) eight years experience as described in (a); or (c) a satisfactory equivalent combination of the foregoing training and experience as defined by the limits of (a) and (b).

 

SUBSTITUTION: Satisfactory completion of 30 credits* of post-high school education in the field of automotive repair or maintenance, or closely related field, may be substituted for one year of the above stated experience.

 

  1. Possession of a valid Commercial Driver’s License, Class A, including a Tow Truck Endorsement and Medical Examiner’s Certificate for Inter-state driving and;

 

2.     Possession of a New York State Motor Vehicle Inspector License with Light vehicle, Heavy vehicle, and Motorcycles endorsements and;

 

3.     Possession of a valid Air Conditioning Recycling License, issued by an EPA approved organization

Located in the Department of Consumer Protection – White Plains: Under general supervision, incumbents of this class perform community outreach work regarding specific programs and services.  Incumbents provide information to residents in an assigned community or geographic area about programs available to them within that area.  Work involves introducing residents to educational forums about program goals and objectives, interpreting program services, and performing routine tasks directly related to the community and programmatic efforts. This class differs from Community Worker in that work primarily involves informing community residents of services available to them while Community Workers actually assist in the delivery of services to the community.  Supervision is not a responsibility of this class. Does related work as required.

 

REQUIRED: High school or equivalency diploma and two years of work experience where the primary function of the position was public contact*.

 

SUBSTITUTION: Satisfactory completion of 30 credits* may be substituted on a year for year basis for the above stated experience.  Two years of related, verifiable volunteer experience may also be substituted for each year of the required experience.

 

*DEFINITION: Public contact is defined as work that involves substantial face-to-face communication with adults (age 21+) (for some jobs over the phone as with telephone company customer services representatives) involving persuasion, negotiation, explaining, counseling, and similar activities. The nature of the contact is such that it requires judgment on the part of the individual dealing with or responding to another person. Typical jobs involving substantial public contact are customer service representatives, receptionists, sales people, people providing personal services, interviewers, counselors, and similar job which involve periodic confirmation with a client, customer, member of the public, etc.

 

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Depending on work assignment, possession of a valid license to operate a motor vehicle in the State of New York will be required at time of appointment and maintain same while in the title.

Located in the Department of Public Works and Transportation – White Plains: Under general supervision, an incumbent of this class, located in the Department of Public Works and Transportation, assists the Commissioner or designee, in representing the department at the Westchester County Airport. Work involves assisting in the formulation, coordination, and implementation of policies and procedures to ensure safe and effective airport operations as well as substantive liaison with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), state and local authorities to ensure regulatory compliance in all areas of operation. In addition, an incumbent applies engineering skills to evaluate the feasibility and execution of additions and modifications to the physical plant of the Airport; performs administrative functions to ensure efficient and effective operations; and records, investigates and resolves complaints or other issues of interest involving airport operations and/or construction. The incumbent is also on call on a 24- hour basis to resolve any emergencies or problems as they arise. Supervision is exercised over the work and performance of employees of the County's Managing Agent.  Does related work as required.

 

REQUIRED: Either (a) Bachelor's Degree* in Civil Engineering and six years of experience (pre- or post-degree) in project design, construction, maintenance, and operation of public facilities, three years of which must have been related to airport operations; (b) a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Civil Technology or a related field and seven years of experience as defined in (a).

 

SUBSTITUTION:  A Master’s Degree* in Engineering may substitute for one year of the general experience.  There is no substitution for the specialized experience.
