Located in the Department of Social Services Ė Various Locations:†† Under general supervision, an incumbent of this class conducts a departmental community relations program with a targeted constituency or client group.† An incumbent is responsible for the development and implementation of a program to provide the community, public interest groups and constituents with assistance and advocacy in understanding and accessing various available County services; identifying demonstrated needs for new or improved services; and acting as liaison between departmental staff and the public.† Supervision is not a responsibility of this class.† Does related work as required.††

 

REQUIRED:††Possession of a high school or equivalency diploma and either (a) six years of experience where the primary function of the position was in community or public relations, community education or community services; or (b) six years of experience where the primary function of the position was administrative support which involved responding to inquiries from the public, community groups and advocacy groups; or (c) an equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of (a) and (b) above.

 

SUBSTITUTIONS: Satisfactory completion of 30 credits towards a Bachelorís Degree* may be substituted on a year for year basis for up to four years of the above stated experience. Satisfactory completion 30 credits towards a Masterís Degree may be substituted on a year for year basis for up to two years of the above stated experience. Verifiable volunteer experience in community or public relations, community education or community services may be substituted for an equal amount of the above stated required experience.†

Located in the Department of Parks, Recreation and Conservation - Yorktown (Rotating Shifts):† Under general supervision, an incumbent performs a variety of journeyman level building maintenance and repair jobs including inspecting buildings to determine the need for repair; planning and laying out work to be done, and estimating the cost of materials and staffing requirements. This classification is distinguished by the fact that while an incumbent may be more proficient in a specific trade, the nature of the work is such that assignments may cross into all aspects involved in the maintenance and repair of buildings, equipment and grounds. Work is performed with considerable independence, but in most instances, results from written or oral instructions. The incumbent may work independently, as part of a crew or as lead worker on specific projects and may supervise a number of lower level maintenance and labor employees. The journeyman is proficient in the skills and practices of a variety of trades, with full knowledge of the principles, tools and techniques used. The journeyman has responsibility for determining methods, techniques, materials, and/or devices best suited to complete projects. Work at this grade is completed with little or no check during progress or on completion. Supervisor may check overall work to see that it meets trade standards. Does related work as required.††

 

REQUIRED:Either:† (a) high school or equivalency diploma and four years experience in trade; or (b) graduation from a two year post high school or trade school course* and two years experience in the trade; or (c) seven years of work experience, five of which must have been in the trade; or (d) a satisfactory equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of (a), (b), and (c).

 

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:† (1) Possession of a valid New York State Driverís License appropriate to the type of equipment operated.† (2) Depending on work assignment, must meet standards of OSHA regulation 1910.134 Respiratory Protection, and will be required to meet Federal, State and local standards with respect to health and safety.
