Located in the Department of Social Services – White Plains: Under general supervision, incumbents of this class perform community outreach work regarding specific programs and services.  Incumbents provide information to residents in an assigned community or geographic area about programs available to them within that area. Work involves introducing residents to educational forums about program goals and objectives, interpreting program services, and performing routine tasks directly related to the community and programmatic efforts. This class differs from Community Worker in that work primarily involves informing community residents of services available to them while Community Workers actually assist in the delivery of services to the community. Supervision is not a responsibility of this class. Does related work as required.

 

REQUIRED: High school or equivalency diploma and two years of work experience where the primary function of the position was public contact*.

 

*DEFINITION: Public contact is defined as work that involves substantial face-to-face communication with adults (age 21+) (for some jobs over the phone as with telephone company customer services representatives) involving persuasion, negotiation, explaining, counseling, and similar activities. The nature of the contact is such that it requires judgment on the part of the individual dealing with or responding to another person. Typical jobs involving substantial public contact are customer service representatives, receptionists, sales people, people providing personal services, interviewers, counselors, and similar job which involve periodic confirmation with a client, customer, member of the public, etc.

 

SUBSTITUTIONS: (1) Satisfactory completion of 30 credits** may be substituted on a year for year basis for the above stated experience.  (2) Two years of related, verifiable volunteer experience may also be substituted for each year of the required experience.

 

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Depending on work assignment, possession of a valid license to operate a motor vehicle in the State of New York will be required at time of appointment and maintain same while in the title.

 

NOTES:  (1) The number of years of experience required in the minimum qualifications is based upon the presumption of full-time employment.  Part-time experience will be prorated based on a 35 hour workweek. 

(2) Verified and documented volunteer (unpaid) experience will only be credited when specifically allowed by

Located in Westchester Community College – Valhalla: Under the general direction of the Chief Information Officer, or the Director of College Community Relations at Westchester Community College, an incumbent of this class is responsible for developing, administering, implementing and maintaining web site standards for County departments, the executive offices of the County, or at the College, as well as for coordinating graphics for web-based marketing initiatives. Incumbents work with department heads, their representatives and department webmasters, supervising the visual and marketing design aspects of all programs and services communicated to the public through web-based media.  Does related work as required.

 

REQUIRED: A Bachelor’s Degree* in Fine Art, Graphic Design, Communications, or Marketing, or closely related field, and five years of experience in graphic design, advertising or communications, two of which must have been using Web software such as Microsoft FrontPage and desktop publishing software (such as Quark, Adobe Illustration and Adobe Photoshop) to design and create web pages, one of which must have been at a supervisory level.

 

SUBSTITUTION: Satisfactory completion of 30 credits* towards a Master’s Degree* in Fine Art, Graphic Design, Communications, or Marketing, or closely related field, with at least 12 credits* in public relations and web development, may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for up to two years of the above stated general graphic design experience. There is no substitution for the specialized experience.

Located in the Department of Parks, Recreation and Conservation – Peekskill (Rotating Shifts): Under supervision, an incumbent of this class is responsible for the maintenance and up-keep of a park so that it is an attractive, safe facility.  Incumbents function as "working foreman" in supervising and participating in the work of maintaining a park, or perform work as a foreman in the Department of Parks, Recreation and Conservation. Work is performed with considerable independence but is often generated through written or oral orders. Consultation and advice is available from General Maintenance and specialists in the department.  Incumbents may supervise a number of maintenance, laboring and seasonal employees. Does related work as required.

 

REQUIRED: Either: (a) High School or equivalency diploma and one year of experience where the primary function of the position was grounds maintenance including the operation of motorized and grounds maintenance equipment; or (b) High School or equivalency diploma and two years of experience where the primary function of the position was general grounds maintenance; or; (c) five years of experience where the primary function of the position was grounds maintenance including the operation of motorized and grounds maintenance equipment; or (d) six years of experience where the primary function of the position was general grounds maintenance; or (e) a satisfactory equivalent combination of training and experience within the limits of (a), (b), (c) and (d) above.

 

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: (1) Possession of a valid New York State motor vehicle operator’s license.  (2) Depending on work assignment, must meet standards of OSHA regulation 1910.134 Respiratory Protection, and will be required to meet Federal, State and local standards with respect to health and safety. (3) Depending on work assignment, may be required to possess New York State Department of Environmental Conservation Pesticide Certification in the appropriate categories.
