Located in the Department of Public Works and Transportation – White Plains: Under general supervision, incumbents of this class perform engineering work by preparing preliminary and final mechanical engineering designs and plans. This is the full-performance level of the Engineering series where incumbents are expected to use independent judgment in performing work on projects of considerable size or on several smaller projects. Other duties involve coordinating activities with other sections of the division as necessary; preparing and implementing project timelines; preparing reports and keeping detailed records relating to work completed; collaborating with municipal agencies as needed, and dealing with contract personnel to ensure project objectives are met. While each level in the engineering series participates in producing details, plans, specifications, etc., this level differs from higher level Senior Engineer level in that incumbents in that title are responsible for a broader scope of work, directing and reviewing the work of lower-level engineering staff, and the requirement to possess a Professional Engineer’s license. While supervision is not a responsibility of this class, incumbents provide guidance to lower-level engineer and support staff as required.  Does related work as required.  

 

REQUIRED: Either: (a) a Bachelor's Degree* in mechanical engineering or related field in engineering four years of mechanical engineering experience; or (b) a Bachelor's Degree* in mechanical technology and five years of mechanical engineering experience.

 

*SPECIAL NOTE: Education beyond the secondary level must be from an institution recognized or accredited by the Board of Regents of the New York State Education Department as a post-secondary, degree-granting institution.

 

SPECIAL REQUIREMENT:  Depending on work assignment, must meet standards of OSHA regulation 1910.134 Respiratory Protection, and will be required to meet Federal, State and local standards with respect to health and safety.

 

NOTES:  (1) The number of years of experience required in the minimum qualifications is based upon the presumption of full-time employment.  Part-time experience will be prorated based on a 35 hour workweek.

Located in the Department of Human Resources – White Plains: Under supervision, incumbents perform complex clerical work auditing personnel/payroll transactions and maintaining records in the Department of Human Resources.  Incumbents of these positions may be assigned to processing and auditing of civil service, personnel, or examination forms and records. This position differs from Assistant Personnel Clerk in that the duties performed require greater knowledge of personnel programs and records management and audits the work submitted by the Payroll/Personnel Clerks in various County departments. REQUIRED: High school or equivalency diploma and either: (a) four years of clerical or administrative support experience, two years of which the primary function was the processing and auditing of records for compliance with rules, policies or procedures; or (b) four years of clerical or administrative support experience, two years of which was in Human Resources, Payroll or Benefits Administration which must have included preparing, processing and/or auditing personnel, benefits or payroll transactions.

 

SUBSTITUTION: Satisfactory completion of 30 credits* may be substituted on a year for year basis for each year of the general clerical experience, and for one year of the specialized experience stated in (a) or (b).

Located in the Westchester Community College – Valhalla: Under general supervision of a Librarian or other appropriate supervisor, an incumbent of this class is responsible for performing technical and administrative duties in the College’s library which includes related functions such as materials acquisition, cataloguing, circulation, inter-library loans, periodicals and Instructional Technology. Responsibilities involve providing administrative support to Librarians, faculty and staff, as well as providing technical support on various matters related to the library. In addition, incumbents regularly maintain contact with publishers, vendors, and librarians throughout the country and internationally to discuss issues related to library functions. Located in the Department of Public Works and Transportation – White Plains: Under general supervision, an incumbent performs a variety of journeyman level building maintenance and repair jobs including inspecting buildings to determine the need for repair; planning and laying out work to be done, and estimating the cost of materials and staffing requirements. This classification is distinguished by the fact that while an incumbent may be more proficient in a specific trade, the nature of the work is such that assignments may cross into all aspects involved in the maintenance and repair of buildings, equipment and grounds. Work is performed with considerable independence, but in most instances, results from written or oral instructions. The incumbent may work independently, as part of a crew or as lead worker on specific projects and may supervise a number of lower level maintenance and labor employees. The journeyman is proficient in the skills and practices of a variety of trades, with full knowledge of the principles, tools and techniques used. The journeyman has responsibility for determining methods, techniques, materials, and/or devices best suited to complete projects. Work at this grade is completed with little or no check during progress or on completion. Supervisor may check overall work to see that it meets trade standards. Does related work as required.  

 

REQUIRED: Either:  (a) high school or equivalency diploma and four years experience in trade; or (b) graduation from a two year post high school or trade school course* and two years experience in the trade; or (c) seven years of work experience, five of which must have been in the trade; or (d) a satisfactory equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of (a), (b), and (c).

 

*SPECIAL NOTE: Education beyond the secondary level must be from an institution recognized or accredited by the Board of Regents of the New York State Department of Education as a post-secondary, degree-granting institution.
