Westchester's
Campaign for Affordable Housing
Westchester
County has launched a campaign to build more affordable housing and is committed
to providing rental subsidy and housing assistance to those in need.
The lack of housing for working families with financial
restrictions (our young people, our older residents, the
employees of our corporations and our teachers, police and firefighters) - is one
of the most critical issues facing our County.
The
hardest part about building affordable housing is not finding the funding or the
land. It is finding the political and moral will.
It is overcoming the myths about affordable housing.
That is why Westchester has undertaken a campaign to educate our
residents about affordable housing - what it looks like, who lives there and who
is responsible for the planning decisions that make it happen.
The
purpose of this Web site is to help educate and inform people about the housing
issue - what affordable housing really is, who needs it and how it can be
developed. The site provides resources for those interested in
additional research and links to other communities and organizations around the
country who are working toward similar goals.
Our
hope is that you will use this material to educate yourselves and others in your
community to the importance of having housing for everyone.
Decisions about building housing are made at the local level, so citizens
such as you, your friends and neighbors will have the information you need to
speak out and let local officials know that you support housing initiatives in
your community.
