Realty Subdivision Review and
Land Development

Environmental engineers review and permit every subdivision plan and new subsurface sewage treatment system (SSTS) for commercial and residential use to ensure that there is adequate sewage disposal and drinking water.  They perform field site visits throughout the construction phase to verify that the plans are being followed.

Much of the land in northern Westchester County is located on the watershed of the City of New York.  As part of the 1997 watershed Memorandum of Agreement, the New York City Department of Environmental Protection has delegated its approval authority for certain sewage treatment systems to the Westchester County Health Department.  The permitting program began in mid-November of 1997 and was renewed for another five years in 2000.
