BOIL WATER ADVISORY CONTINUED

The Westchester County Department of Health today continued the “boil water” advisory for Yonkers residents who lost water or experienced low water pressure in the wake of this weekend’s storms.

Residents should boil their water at a rolling boil for 2 minutes prior to using the water for drinking or cooking.  The “boil water” advisory is a precautionary measure to protect residents from any bacteria that may have entered the drinking water due to the loss of water pressure.

The Health Department will be conducting bacteriological tests of the system today.  The “boil water” advisory will not be lifted until the water testing confirms that the water quality is satisfactory under New York State drinking water guidelines.

Residents who lost electrical power during the storms may have experienced food spoilage in refrigerated or freezer food.  The Health Department recommends that any suspect food be discarded and not eaten.
