AND THE WINNER IS…
CROTON-ON-HUDSON VILLAGE
FOR THE BEST TASTING WATER
The Westchester
County Department of Health today announced the winner of the annual water
tasting contest is Croton-on-Hudson Village.
County
residents participated in a blind taste test during the National Public Health
Week celebration at the Galleria Mall in White Plains, on Tuesday, April 4th,
to select their favorite drinking water. Over 130 participants tasted water
from the Village of Croton-on-Hudson, City of Yonkers, City of Mount Vernon,
Greenburgh, and Ossining Water Department.
“Water quality is paramount to public health. Drinking water quality is ensured through expanded monitoring and sampling of County water supplies,” stated County Executive Andy Spano. “Through various environmental protection projects, Westchester continues its commitment to Keep Westchester’s Water H2OK.”
Croton-on-Hudson
Village was voted the best tasting water followed by Greenburgh, Yonkers, Mt.
Vernon, and Ossining. This is Croton’s
first time winning after several years of participation. Croton was also the only well water supplier
in the contest; all of the others are surface water suppliers. The winner of
this contest goes on to compete in the New York State water tasting contest.
“The Village of
Croton-on-Hudson is very proud of the quality of our crystalline drinking
water. The water is of an extremely high quality coming from sand and gravel
aquifers beneath the Croton River Basin,” stated Village Manager, Richard F.
Herbek. “Many people who live in Croton enjoy the taste of our drinking water
for its purity and some have even suggested that we bottle the water and sell
it similar to other brand name spring quality water.”
