COUNTY TO HOLD ANNUAL WATER TASTING CONTEST MAY 7

National Drinking Water Week Observed, May 4 – 10

In recognition of National Drinking Water Week, May 4 – 10, 2003, the Westchester County Department of Health will hold its annual water tasting contest to select the best tasting water in Westchester County.

County residents can participate in the blind taste test at the Michaelian Office Building, 148 Martine Avenue, White Plains, from 10am – 3 pm on Wednesday, May 7, and select their favorite drinking water.   The participants in this year’s taste test will be Village of Croton-on-Hudson Water District, City of Yonkers Water District, City of Mount Vernon Water District, United Water – New Rochelle, Greenburgh Consolidated Water District, and City of Peekskill Water District.

“Every day, people make decisions that affect the water supply, whether it's turning off the tap while brushing their teeth, disposing of household chemicals properly, or supporting land use policies that protect community water resources,” stated Westchester County Health Commissioner Joshua Lipsman, M.D., M.P.H.  “The most important decisions about water are made by individuals, and each positive decision adds up to safer, cleaner drinking water.  National Drinking Water Week provides us with an excellent opportunity to remind residents to conserve, protect and get involved to ensure that Westchester’s water is H2OK,” he added.

“Water Week” is a coordinated effort of the Westchester County Water Agency, the Westchester County Department of Health, the Westchester Water Works Conference, the New York Section of the American Water Works Association and the New York State Department of Health.  For additional information, contact the Westchester County Department of Health at (914) 813-5000 or visit www.westchestergov.com/health.
