PLAYLAND TO HOST 3RD
ANNUAL “SCHOOL’S OUT SMOKE OUT” JUNE 21
Teens from the region are invited to Playland Saturday, June 21 for the 3rd annual “School’s Out Smoke Out,” a day of fun activities and free concerts to reinforce the message of Westchester’s “Butt-out” and “Face Value” campaigns to deter youth smoking, County Executive Andy Spano announced.
“Playland provides the perfect ‘school’s out’ location for students who want to enjoy the park and stand united in their commitment to saying no to cigarettes and other tobacco products,” Spano said.
Sponsored by POW’R Against Tobacco (a coalition of organizations from Putnam, Orange, Westchester and Rockland), the event begins at noon with informational booths and displays and will feature live entertainment at the Park’s stage. There will be special activities geared to teens, ride ticket promotions and other special events throughout the day including slam poetry and step dancing contests.
Joining forces with the County and POW’R Against Tobacco will be Westchester’s Reality Check, which works to empower youth against the lure of Big Tobacco.
Spano is asking visitors to the county-owned Playland Park to voluntarily refrain from smoking that day. Smoking is already barred at Kiddyland and on all ride lines throughout the park.
Admission to Playland is always free. For more information about the Smoke-out event, call 813-5000. For information on Rye Playland, visit their website at www.westchestergov.com/playland.
