Westchester County Beach Advisory

Due to the heavy rainfall experienced yesterday and anticipated for today, the Health Department is issuing an advisory regarding water-related recreation at all of Westchester’s beaches and fresh water lakes beginning today and extending through Sunday, September 12.  As a result of extensive flooding and sewage overflows throughout the county, bacteria levels in the water are expected to be high.

“While the formal beach season has officially come to a close in Westchester County, many residents still utilize the waterways for recreational activities,” said Dr. Joshua Lipsman, Commissioner of Health for Westchester County.  “Therefore, we are alerting the public that it should avoid swimming, water-skiing and other water recreation at the beaches along the Hudson River and the Long Island Sound, as well as in all of the County’s fresh water lakes throughout the weekend,” he added.
