Prenatal care for expectant mothers assures the best start in life for baby.
Community outreach workers, through the New York State Department of Health funded Healthy
Beginnings Program, serving Yonkers, White Plains/Greenburgh, and Port Chester/Rye,
perform outreach and work with
community-based organizations to find women in need of prenatal care and assist them with
services designed to assure a healthy beginning for their babies.
The "Healthy Beginnings"
Program provides home visits to best meet individual and family
needs. Community outreach workers, who are bilingual, monitor prenatal care
throughout each pregnancy and continue to follow the
family until the baby turns a year old. The
program insures that the children have a primary care
physician, receive regular checkups, immunizations,
dental screening and lead
testing.
The "Healthy Beginnings" Program provides information on local health, community and social
services such as WIC, Medicaid, Prenatal Care Assistance Program, food stamps,
food pantries, mental health services, domestic violence, HIV and
substance abuse programs.

& Education
- Linkages with community
organizations and health care providers and
involvement with the Lower Hudson Valley Perinatal Network and the
Regional Center Forum enhance the programs services and community
resources.
- The
program provides incentives such as; cribs, t-shirts, baby sleepers and
diaper bags to program enrollees who comply with all the scheduled
prenatal care or pediatric appointments.
-
Healthy Beginnings
Program staff perform several hours of street outreach three times a
month to find pregnant women who have no prenatal care or children
without healthcare and/or health insurance.
