Bedford Road School Pedometer Summary, June
2005
How
Far Did We Walk?
In
April, each child and classroom teacher was given the opportunity to wear a
pedometer for a school day. (The ‘day’ was from around 8:30am to 2pm).
The
school’s total mileage was
1214.3 miles
(1954.2 km)
Yes, just over one thousand, two hundred and fourteen miles!
If you
started at BRS and walked that far south
you’d be in …. Miami !!
Or west … all the way into Kansas.
Or north … to the northern coast of the province of Quebec, Canada.
The 596
kids that participated walked 1174.9 of those miles, and the 23 teachers walked
39.4 miles
The kids’
average was almost 2 miles, and the teachers’ average was 1.7 miles (this may have
been skewed by the kids’ enthusiasm in wearing the pedometers).
Thank
you to everyone who helped this happen: the teachers; the kids; and also the
Westchester County Department of Health ‘Fit Kids’ program who provided the
pedometers.
