Quit Smoking Blog
Help in breaking the habit

December 30, 2007

Hello everyone. I quit smoking last Friday evening in anticipation of seeing Bodyworks 2.  This has probably been at least the 50th time I am attempting this but I feel stronger this time then ever before.  Research on the internet has provided some excellent arguments for not smoking and reading the new book, A Cigarette Nation, has also helped. I have noticed a lot of changes in my life.  These changes have been both physical and emotional.  The grip that steady cigarette consumption has on your health is simply amazing in its depth.  Even taking a trip to the bathroom is different as a nonsmoker..that is what floored me. How your body processes even food in the large intestine is affected by smoking. Emotional changes.. as a smoker I always had a perimeter about myself that no one was allowed to enter, including my family.  The horrid stink of smoking and the shame of bearing it was enough for me apparently to fend off all close relationships with anyone. (the monetary cost of smoking pales next to this!).  I am eating it up now!! I am enjoying being close as never before to my family and friends...especially my wife. My hands and breath no longer reek of tobacco smoke.  As you go through the process of quitting, never stop looking for the hundreds of things you DID NOT, WOULD NOT, COULD NOT do because you were a smoker.  Live free of cigs is a beautiful thing.
