County Programs to Reduce Youth Violence

 

 
  • The Guidance Center – Power of Peace: This program will operate in Mount Vernon and is a positive youth development project for 40 middle and high school students to learn conflict resolution, leadership, community service and decision making skills, increasing their protective factors and decreasing their vulnerability to negative influences. A documentary “Youth Perspectives on Gangs” is the culminating project.

    Nepperhan Community Center, Inc. - Transitions/Re-entry: This program will specifically target Yonkers youth that are identified as gang members that have experienced encounters with the courts, incarceration, or probation and provide them with case management services, and ensure their enrollment in either an apprenticeship program, skills training program, part – time or full – time employment.


    Family Service of Westchester, Inc. – Big Brothers/Big Sisters of FSW Gang Prevention Mentoring: This program will target youth in Mt. Vernon, New Rochelle, Peekskill, Yonkers, Port Chester, Tarrytown and White Plains and will expand the mentoring relationships to provide a strategic gang prevention focus for these youth and their families.
