Public Hearing and Advocacy Speak-Out to take place on Oct. 30

Westchester County’s Department of Senior Programs and Services (DSPS) will update its goals and objectives and how it expects to allocate its federal and state funds through 2012 at its annual Public Hearing and Advocacy Speak-Out meeting on Oct. 30 from 9 a.m. to noon at the County Center in White Plains.

This will be the department’s second update to its 2008-2012 Area Plan on its anticipated use of funds from the federal Older Americans Act and the New York State Community Service for the Elderly Program.

The 2010 update to the four-year plan will describe the department’s goals and objectives, provider reporting requirements, allocation strategies, the reimbursement system and proposed funding allocation schedules for next year. Providers will need to justify their need for continued funding.

The hearing will also provide a venue for senior citizens, members of Aging Network coalitions, DSPS staff and others to speak out on advocacy issues and concerns that affect Westchester’s seniors and their families. In addition, the New York State-wide Senior Action Council will share the results of its Fall Legislative Conference and invite additional items for the 2010 StateWide Legislative Agenda.

The update will be available at DSPS’ office at 9 S. First Ave., 10th Floor, Mount Vernon, starting Oct. 26 and at the hearing.

Advance registration to speak is preferred but not required. To register, call Rose Pasquale at (914) 813-6415 or send her an e-mail at rcp4@westchestergov.com.
