Educators, youth workers and students from communities in the region will gather for the 11th annual "Prideworks for LGBT Youth Conference," designed to teach safety and respect for all regardless of sexual orientation and gender identity or expression. The conference will take place on Tuesday, Nov. 17 at the Westchester County Center.
The full-day event is designed in particular for school staff, parents, and lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender youth who are questioning their sexual orientation and their straight allies.
The conference will open with a keynote address by Alan Van Capelle, the executive director of the Empire State Pride Agenda, a state-wide advocacy group. He will speak about building a full equality agenda for all New Yorkers.
The conference will feature workshops, including a panel discussion on “Four Decades of Coming Out Stories,” in which panelists ranging from adolescents to seniors will share their coming out stories.
