Barbecue Propane Tanks question/ suggestion printer-friendly email a friend rss feed
Barbecue Propane Tanks

Before placing a tank in your car for recycling, empty it through normal use of your grill and seal with a plastic cap. Propane tanks come with a cap to insure safety in transit. Most hardware stores and propane distributors sell replacement caps. If your propane tank can be refilled, consider giving it to a neighbor or a friend to use.

Residents can deliver 2, 5, 10 and 20 pound propane tanks to a Household Recycling Day scheduled at various locations throughout the year.

One to two pound propane barbecue tanks
Residual gas should be burned off through proper use of the grill. Empty tanks may be disposed of in the garbage or on bulk pick-up days. Never include a 1 or 2 pound BBQ tank with your glass, plastic or metal recyclables. Call your local recycling office for more information.

Twenty pound propane barbecue tanks
If you need to dispose of a 20 pound BBQ tank before a scheduled Household Recycling Day event, the companies listed below accept 20 pound propane gas barbeque tanks year-round. They may charge a nominal fee. Please note that inclusion of a company on this list is not an endorsement by the County of Westchester.
