Businesses,
schools and other large waste generators such as restaurants and office and
apartment buildings, are required by
law to have an on-site recycling program. The Recycling Office provides technical assistance, including tours of county buildings that have effective recycling programs, and educational materials to help set up programs and promote recycling to employees.
Read the
Quick Recycling Guide to learn how to separate recyclables from garbage. The guide is available in
Spanish too.
Businesses and schools can assess their own recycling programs to make sure they're recycling all that they can and as effectively as they can. These forms will guide you through your self-assessment: school self-audit and businesses self-audit. This video will guide you in assessing your recycling program. Send us an e-mail if your school would like to get a copy of this video (in DVD format), while supplies last.
Owners of buildings, including residential apartment buildings, containing more than 100 residents, employees, patients or students during a 24-hour period must have a Nonresidential Waste Generator Plan on file with the Commissioner of Environmental Facilities.
