Refrigerators, ACs and Freon
U. S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regulations, prohibit the intentional release of coolants, such as freon, to the atmosphere.  Such coolants are found in refrigerators, dehumidifiers, freezers and air conditioners.

In Westchester, each municipality has its own set of recycling requirements for freon containing units.  You should understand and comply with these requirements.

If your municipality requires that freon be removed prior to municipal collection, contact one of the freon extracting companies listed on this site.  The Department of Environmental Facilities issues stickers to such companies so the unit will be clearly marked as "ready for recycling".
