Energy Efficiency

Westchester County is reaching out to the community asking to conserve energy by replacing old-fashioned incandescent bulbs with compact florescent ones.  In the long run, compact florescent light bulbs are cost effective, energy efficient and reduce pollution.

The county has improved energy efficiency in county facilities by:
  • adding high-efficiency lighting in all buildings
  • adding motion sensors for lights
  • requiring the highest energy efficiency ratio for all new equipment
  • retrofitting County buildings with high efficiency windows
  • replacing old boilers with high efficiency boilers
  • requiring energy efficiencies in the wastewater treatment plants
  • promoting preferential purchasing plans for energy-efficient products to the extent feasible under all applicable laws, rules, and regulations.

We  have also promoted energy efficiency in IDA-funded development

  • The Industrial Development Agency advocates the use of “green building” technologies and practices, and requires each applicant to describe how these technologies will be incorporated into the project construction/renovations
  • IDA also requires compliance with energy efficient standards (ENERGY STAR) in equipment and lighting.
