Automated Field Inspections

We have started a number of projects to automate various field inspections.  In Health, the project now encompasses all air quality, food service, tobacco usage, water quality and other environmental field inspection activities.

Parks Department inspectors are now preparing reports on the conditions of various parks using the automated “Pride in Parks” form, resulting in work orders to improve unacceptable findings.

DoIT recently helped the Environmental Facilities department to automate its entire sewer manhole inspection program.  Previously, DEF only had generalized GIS point and line data, and an address-search that used old census data.  With the new GIS-based system in place, DEF can correct infrastructure locations, enter and retrieve inspection information, and research a service call from anywhere, day or night.

County construction job site inspectors have available, via a wireless document/workflow, sufficient data to ensure that only licensed plumbers and electricians are overseeing the work.

Playland Ticket System

This new ticket system replaced paper tickets with cards capable of storing data, thereby reducing Playland's exposure to theft and permitting analysis of customer activities in the park.  The previous ticket-based system provided only limited information about usage patterns at the park.

Municipal Services: Telecom and Other Tech Services

As part of the Westchester County Telecom Project, DoIT provides a variety of telecommunications and technology services to 24 municipalities in partnership with Cablevision Lightpath Inc.

Westchester Telecom is the 400+ mile fiber optic network that touches almost every area of the County.  It provides telephone voice, videoconferencing, data communications and Internet access.

DoIT provides proactive network management and support for participating municipalities.  The County can also provide other IT services, including e-mail hosting, WAN management, firewall services, DNS hosting, and access to various secure applications as part of Telecom Project.

The goal of the Westchester Telecom project is simple: to bring modern telecommunications resources to Westchester County.  One of several benefits of this project is that Cablevision offers telephone service at a highly competitive rate, which translates into significant savings for participating municipalities.  Also beneficial is the sheer speed and efficiency at which data is exchanged between sites with this modern networking solution.
