County helps local companies go global, tap booming Chinese economy

May 26, 2006

As part of its continued effort to promote local companies abroad, Westchester County facilitated a videoconference today between Smart Pros, the Westchester-based online training company and Training Network Group, a Beijing-based counterpart.

Jack Fingerhut and Bill Grollman of Smart Pros, joined by Daisy Yau, Westchester County Asian-American Affairs  Liaison and Norm Jacknis, CIO for the County.

The videoconference came on the heels of County Executive Andy Spano's most recent trade mission to China.  Interest in future cooperation and product line expansion was evident during the one-hour Skype videoconference; a follow-up demo will be scheduled in the coming days.

This is the first of several videoconferences to be held between local IT companies and Chinese counterparts identified during the recent two-week mission.

Increased trade and joint development between Westchester-based and Chinese companies has been a stated goal of the County Executive ever since his first trip to China in 1998: "Each time I’ve gone to China we’ve been able to build more relationships and establish additional networks. We are continuing to pave the way for companies who want to do business there," said Spano.
