The Department of Information Technology (DoIT) oversees the County's
use of existing and emerging technologies in government operations,
and its delivery of services to the public.
Upon entering office in 1998, County Executive Andy Spano resurrected this previously outsourced department and vowed to make government more accessible and cost-effective through technology. One of Mr. Spano's first official acts as county executive was to create the position of chief information officer and fill it with Dr. Norman Jacknis. A year later, the Board of Legislators created DoIT, which now services close to 40 County Departments with an array of technology solutions.
The department is comprised of many seasoned professionals: its staff of 160 strong has an average of 15 years of service and an average age of 46 years.
