HOW WOULD YOU KNOW THERE IS AN EMERGENCY AT INDIAN POINT?

Special sirens have been installed to alert you to an emergency. The sirens are loud, high-pitched alarms which would be sounded for three to five minutes without interruption.

In areas where sirens may not be heard, police car public address systems or “single station alert” radios are used.

If you hear the sirens, turn on your radio or TV to one of the Emergency Alert System (EAS) stations listed here. You should take only the actions advised in these official EAS messages:

WFAN-AM 660 kHz
WABC-AM 770 kHz
WCBS-AM 880 kHz
WFAS-AM 1230 kHz
WALL-AM 1340 kHz
WLNA-AM 1420 kHz
WRRV-FM 92.7 MHz
WQXR-FM 96.3 MHz
WHUD-FM 100.7 MHz
WFAS-FM 103.9 MHz
WCBS-TV Ch 2 TV
WNBC-TV Ch 4 TV
WNYW-TV Ch 5 TV
WABC-TV Ch 7 TV

Emergency information could also be carried on the following stations:

WRKL-AM 910 kHz
WTBQ-AM 1110 kHz
WGNY-AM 1220 kHz
WRCR-AM 1300 kHz
WNEW-FM 102.7 MHz
WGNY-FM 103.1 MHz
WAXB-FM 105.5 MHz
WWXY-FM 107.1 MHz
NEWS-12 Ch 12 Cable

WHAT WOULD YOU BE ASKED TO DO?

In order to give you the greatest degree of protection, instructions will be given by county or state officials based on the consideration of all factors. The instructions on the EAS stations will refer to Emergency Response Planning Areas within the Westchester County emergency planning zone. Since instructions for different Planning Areas may be different, please check by clicking on the Indian Point Locator Map and typing in your address.

YOU MIGHT BE ASKED TO:

Stay Indoors
If the people in your Planning Area are advised to stay indoors, please go inside the nearest building and limit ways that air gets into the building (close windows and doors, turn off air conditioners, for example).

Or Leave The Area
If people in your Planning Area are advised to leave temporarily, please take personal belongings and travel by designated routes shown on the map or by bus routes indicated on the back.

Where Would You Get Assistance?
If residents in your Planning Area are advised to leave their homes, you should go to the home of a friend or relative outside the emergency planning zone, or to the General Population Reception Center designated for your area. Follow the evacuation route associated with that center.

The Reception Centers for your area are shown in the booklet on the Map. (*pdf file format) and also on the Indian Point Locator Map. For non-emergency questions and general information concerning these preparations, please call the Westchester County, Department of Emergency Services, Office of Emergency Management toll-free number 1-800-942-1452 during business hours, Monday through Friday.

In some instances, the assignment of Reception Centers may vary, depending on conditions, from those identified above the map. Residents should listen closely to an Emergency Alert System (EAS) station to ensure they are going to the appropriate Reception Center. If changes are made, they will be announced.
