Westchester County
Office for the Disabled
The mission of the Office for the Disabled is to provide information, advocacy,
and ParaTransit services for individuals with disabilities throughout
Westchester County, so that they may maintain independence and share equally in
opportunities in the community. Apart from
information and referral for the public, we also consult with other County
Departments to ensure that Westchester County’s policies, programs and
facilities are in compliance with the mandates of the Americans with
Disabilities Act (ADA) of 1990.
The direct
services of the Office for the Disabled include:
* Para Transit
Services
* Travel Training Services for people with developmental disabilities
* Distribution of application forms for the County's reduced-fare pass for the Bee-Line buses.
* A Sign Language Interpreter, on-site, to assist people who are deaf in their dealings with the hearing community.
* Sign Language Interpreter Referral for individuals and organizations who are looking for qualified
interpreters.
* "Out & About" quarterly newsletter.
* Resource guides and directories like our guides to camps and recreation programs for people with
disabilities.
* Special events, including the Annual Day at Playland for People with
disabilities and the Annual Achievement Awards Breakfast celebrating National Disability Employment Awareness
Month.
* Work with Westchester municipalities to enforce handicapped parking laws.
Our office hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
