WHY:   Recently, there have been some highly publicized cases of cyberbullying here in Westchester County. This kind of activity often begins on school grounds and continues at home, creating many gray areas of responsibility and liability. Sometimes, it is a harmless prank that gets out of hand; other times, it is malicious and dangerous.

Westchester County has retained cyberlawyer and Internet safety expert Parry Aftab to help create a multi-pronged educational and awareness campaign against cyberbullying. The campaign will be created with WiredSafety.org and InternetSuperHeroes.org.

It will include a specially-designed poster using Marvel’s super heroes delivering anti-cyberbullying messages, bookmarks with safe and responsible surfing tips, programs for parents and teachers, law enforcement training. .

The summit is made possible with the financial help of Verizon, Motorola and Cablevision’s Power to Learn Education Initiative.
