Reduced fare MetroCard Application for the Disabled

What people with disabilities
should know about MetroCard
coming April 1.

Coins or MetroCard.  Which one is right for you?

You can use either coins or MetroCard – but not dollar bills – on Westchester’s Bee-Line buses starting April 1.  If you use coins, the bus fare is still 85 cents and 10 cents for a transfer.

With MetroCard, the reduced fare is $1 per ride, which includes a transfer to any Bee-Line local bus or to a NYC subway or bus.

Price Break:  Disabled riders who take the express bus to NYC – the fare is now just $2.50 – coins or MetroCard.

MetroCard FAQs

Q: Will I need a MetroCard to ride the Bee-Line bus after March 31?

A: No.  You can continue to use coins with your Half-Fare ID card but not dollar bills.  The cash fare – still 85 cents for a ride and 10 cents for a transfer – must be in coins only.

Q:  How do I get reduced fares?

A:  When you get a Reduced Fare MetroCard, you pay $1 a ride and get a free transfer to another Bee-Line local bus or to a NYC subway or bus.

Q:  What is a Reduced Fare MetroCard?

A:  It is a photo ID card that is available to people with qualifying disabilities and can also be used to pay for rides at reduced rates.

Q:  Why should I use MetroCard?

A:   You won’t need exact change.  You’ll get free transfers from Bee-Line buses to New York City subways or buses.  Plus, you get more bonuses and discounts.

Q:    How do I get bonuses?

A:   If you put $10 or more on the “Pay-Per-Ride” Reduced Fare MetroCard, you get a 20 percent bonus – for example, you get 12 trips for the price of 10.

Q:    How do I get other discounts?

A:   The “Unlimited Ride” Reduced Fare MetroCard gives you any number of rides for a specific time period.  You pay $12 for 7 days or $38 for 30 days.

Q:     How do I get a Reduced Fare MetroCard?

A:    You need to get an application.  You can call MetroCard at 1-800-METROCARD, the Bee-Line at 914-813-7777 or go online at www.mta.info.  If you apply by mail, the application must be notarized.

Q:     Can I apply for a Reduced Fare MetroCard in person?

A:     Yes -- on a special MetroCard Bus which will make scheduled visits to Westchester locations.  Call 914-813-7777 for the schedule.  You will need to bring with you a completed application which must be signed by a physician or other appropriate licensed Heath Care Provider.
