What's "Phishing"?

"Phishing" is when con artists cleverly copy the web pages of known internet companies like E-Bay, Pay-Pal and Earthlink. Using these authentic looking but fake web pages, they then collect personal information from internet consumers. The consumers think they are visiting the real E-Bay, Pay-Pal or Earthlink. The information collected on these fake pages is then used to create new illegal identities. The "phishers" may ask you to call a telephone number and provide the information to them.

Remember the Following!

• Don't reply to any e-mails asking you for personal information. Even if the e-mail is sent to you marked "urgent". It may warn you that accounts you have are going to be closed,  if you don't provide the request information. Most legitimate companies don't ask you for your private financial information.
  
  
• Avoid e-mailing any personal financial information unless you are sure it is a "secure site".
  
  
• Always review your credit card and bank statements for any unauthorized charges.
  
  
• Report any suspicious activity to your bank or lending institution along with the following "antiphishing" sites:
