PROTECT
YOUR PRIVATE FINANCIAL INFORMATION
The
Financial Services Modernization Act, which went into effect July 1, 2001,
mandates that financial
institutions tell their customers how the consumer's personal financial information is
being used. It gives consumers the opportunity to say no to certain kinds of
"sharing" of personal information. Many
consumers have mistaken the notices regarding "sharing" for junk
mail or have found the notices too confusing to understand. Most of the
mailings have come from your bank, retail store or gasoline credit card
companies.
The Privacy Rights Clearing House has developed a sample "fill in the blank" letter that consumers can use to "opt" out of the bank's sharing or selling of personal data.
It’s
an EASY
letter to fill out and will protect you and your private financial
matters.
